This list ranks the best of the best in West Virginia’s kitchen remodeling construction scene. A number of these firms are young, founded less than a decade ago. Some of the firms on the list are dedicated kitchen and bathroom firms, but there are general construction companies as well.

All of these firms are qualified, but we ranked them based on work quality, portfolio, awards, accreditations, company background, reviews, and prestige. But if you’re a West Virginia homeowner in the market for a kitchen update, you can find a great fit on this list, no matter where they were ranked.


15) SMD Construction

Sunset Beach Rd, Morgantown, WV 26508

SMD Construction is a U.S.-veteran owned business that has been operating for 21 years. Among the company’s list of services are kitchen and bath remodeling, lawn care, snow removal, and deck construction. The firm is based in Morgantown and operates in the Fairmont and Kingwood areas as well.

The work featured shows a modern kitchen project by the firm. Note its cream-colored granite countertops and the playful lighting fixtures that provide a welcoming atmosphere.


14) WS Contracting Labor Workz

Parkersburg, WV 26101

WS Contracting Labor Workz is based in Parkersburg and spearheaded by Norman Baker. The veteran-owned company has operated for more than 35 years. In addition to being a residential contractor, the firm is also a licensed Master Plumber.

This contemporary kitchen has a classic American-style design. Its setup is ideal for a single family or a bachelor pad. An open side counter allows free conversation between people in the kitchen. Simple wooden floors and cabinetry are augmented by mod lighting fixtures.


13) Nelson B. Sherrill

12) Greene’s Contracting, Inc.

Greene’s Contracting’s work catalog demonstrates a taste for luxury. This grandiose aesthetic stems from the company’s custom work: it creates its own countertops and hardwood moldings. The firm is Certified Lead Safe by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

Johnson and Son’s specialties is HVAC service. The company, which is Johnson’s namesake, has been going strong for more than 75 years.

10) Kitchens By Classic Construction

Kitchens By Classic has been in the field for 36 years, an impressive span for the remodeling firm. Husband and wife team Gary and Jina Ward serve as the firm’s principals, and they were recently joined by their son Chase. The firm’s core expertise lies in kitchen renovation but also offers various services including home additions, expansions, and remodeling.

David Logan discovered his passion for construction at a young age, a passion he used to create Vintage Building. As the firm’s name implies, it specializes in historic restoration and preservation. The company has its own workshop and provides custom furniture, windows, and shutters.

New construction is also on the company’s list of services, its kitchen projects provide great samples of the firm’s fantastic work. This contemporary kitchen displays Vintage Building at its finest, using wood, metal, and glass to create a lovely interior space fit for any home.


8) Kitchens By Woody’s

Kitchen By Woody’s is an award-winning firm, with a strong portfolio of projects. The firm has a strong focus on kitchen and bath remodeling and operates in Huntington and Barboursville. Woody’s is a member of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

The firm has been featured in Huntington Quarterly’s Top Ten Kitchens in 2017. A cool mesh of regal colors frames the kitchen area. 4) JC Smith Preferred Construction Experts

Its list of awards includes the HBAWV’s Best Single Family Class VI Award in 2017, the Best Residential Remodeling Class IV Award in 2017, multiple HBAWV Best Builder of WV awards, and a 2016 reader’s choice for Best Builder in the Valley from the Charleston Gazette-Mail.


2) Rising Sun Construction LLC

Energy efficient and innovative, Rising Sun Construction is a Morgantown-based company with an extensive list of awards. The firm offers full-service construction and uses natural elements in its design work such as wood and stone. Chris Bailey leads this team, a remodeler and wood builder with a broad resume including featured projects from West Virginia to Washington D.C.

Rising Sun is a member of the NAHB. It has been deemed a Certified Lead Safe Remodeler, a Deep Energy Retrofit Specialist, and a Certified Structural Insulated Panel Installer (SIPS) by the EPA. It is a part of a family of firms and co-owned by brothers Jeff and Reg Messenger. The local firm provides in-house woodwork, including custom millwork, rough lumber, flooring, and doors. Its impressive kitchen projects are one of the reasons why Hardwood Interiors was featured in Morgantown Magazine.

The family-owned business is the sister company of Wood Products, Inc.
