Industrial projects are highly challenging and complex, given the specific needs and details that arise during both design and construction phases. This list is a showcase of eight of Louisville, Kentucky’s best and leading general contractors behind some of the area’s most noteworthy industrial spaces. Our editorial team chose these firms because of their excellent clientele lists, strong backgrounds, and unique experiences. Several of these companies offer their own fields of specialty and are also the recipient of industry accolades.


Prodigy Construction

Founded in 2005, Prodigy Construction is a leading design-build expert. It is highly regarded for its stellar construction management work and operates out of its office in Louisville. The firm has also had the opportunity to work in several districts across the southeast, including Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia, North Carolina, and Maryland. Prodigy oversees everything throughout the entire process, from start to finish. It makes use of a highly collaborative approach and it has a stellar portfolio filled with automotive dealerships, restaurants, industrial, healthcare, and hospital projects. The photo below is an excellent example of the firm’s industrial work. 

Located in Shelbyville, this project was designed and constructed for Bemis Flexible Packaging. It spans over 53,000 square feet and serves as an addition to an existing 220,000-square-foot production facility. On this project, the firm’s team had to install various production equipment, including laminators, presses, and oxidizers.


ABEL Construction

ABEL Construction operates out of three offices in Louisville, Indianapolis, and Lexington. It offers its clients a complete range of general contracting services in addition to a hands-on design-build approach. The company dates as far back as 1938 when it was first known as “Abel & Sons.” The firm is one of the largest contractors in the Kentuckiana region and has had the opportunity to work on some of the area’s most recognizable landmarks. Its portfolio includes a great range of sports facilities, automotive dealerships, commercial facilities, ecumenical buildings, as well as food, beverage, healthcare, and industrial spaces. 

The company is still owned and overseen by the Abel family. Bill Abel, Jr. serves as the firm’s CEO; his wife Amy is the chairwoman. Together they assure clients that all of the firm’s projects receive the benefit of their extensive experience.


Calhoun Construction Services, Inc.

7707 National Turnpike, Suite 400, Louisville, KY 40214

Calhoun Construction offers an excellent array of preconstruction and construction management services. Headquartered in Louisville, it also specializes in the design-build process which allows it to keep the entire process in-house. The firm is personally led and overseen by its principal and president, John Hinshaw. He offers clients over two decades of experience traveling in and around the country and managing numerous construction projects. That includes everything from hundred-million-dollar sports venues to high-end apartments. Under his leadership, the company has grown to become a team of over 125 employees and has taken on over $100M worth of projects. 

The project showcased here was completed in 2015 and spans over 53,808 square feet. Located in Shelbyville, the firm’s team had to work on insulated building panels on the project’s roof and sidewalls. It was designed for Diageo, a leader in the beverage industry.


LBM Construction Company, Inc.

11421 Blankenbaker Access Drive, Louisville, KY 40299

LBM Construction is a multi-awarded firm that is the proud recipient of several ABC Awards of Excellence. It draws inspiration from nearly three decades of industry experience and is a leader in commercial construction. It provides great general contracting, construction management, design-build programs, and facilities maintenance work. The firm is led by its owner Jeff McLellan. Under his direction, the company has had the opportunity to take on several shopping centers and medical facilities. It has also secured an outstanding clientele list for itself and a large percentage of repeat clients. 

The featured project is located in Louisville and spans roughly 155,000 square feet. It includes a one-story building, a standard perimeter loading dock, and grade beam foundation walls. The firm also provided exterior concrete masonry, insulation finish systems, and pre-engineered metal sheeted walls.


A.L. Post, Inc.

A.L. Post has been in business since 2001 and specializes in the engineering, design, and construction of commercial and industrial facilities. It operates out of its headquarters in Louisville but has also designed and completed various projects throughout Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Georgia, Texas, Iowa, Nebraska, Utah, and Idaho. The firm’s portfolio includes several excellent religious, historic, medical, and dental spaces. It has also taken on several large-scale commercial and industrial projects. The company’s team assists clients with everything throughout the entire process, including various specialty services such as finish carpentry, masonry, demolition, and structural steel reinforcement.

The company is led by its principal, Leo Post. He holds a Masters Degree in civil engineering and offers the firm’s clients over three decades of commercial construction experience. Under his leadership, A.L. Post has become known for its attention to detail and its integrated delivery approach.


The Poling Company Inc

With over two decades of experience working around Louisville, The Poling Company specializes in commercial, industrial, and healthcare projects. The firm is composed of a talented and experienced team of professionals, who have completed various multi-million dollar projects. The firm is led by its namesake, Mark Poling.
