This list focuses on the best American contractors that have experience building banks. Some of these firms have completed projects across the U.S., while some focus their energy closer to home. Aside from their experience in this specialized sector, these highly flexible firms are also able to cope with constant industry changes thanks to their highly experienced principals. 

The firms on this list maintain memberships within industry associations such as the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the National Association for Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP), and the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). Along with these associations, these firms have also been featured in magazines like Engineering News Record (ENR), Business Journal, U.S. Builders Review, and Constructor Magazine. Most of these firms have also been included on ENR’s ranked lists, while others were recognized with ABC’s Excellence in Construction award and Safety awards from the ABC.

Poole Anderson

Formed in 1999, Poole Anderson is the product of two companies—L.C. Anderson and Sons and S and A Commercial Construction. Anderson and Sons brought its impeccable reputation as a builder for the educational, medical, industrial, and institutional markets to the merger. S and A’s capability to work on commercial and multi-housing construction made the combined firm even more impressive. So although Poole Anderson was only formed in 1999, it carries more than 85 years of construction experience and expertise to manage all kinds of problems. Because of these capabilities, the firm has been recognized with two Excellence in Construction Awards from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), and a Design-Build Award from the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA). It was also recognized by publications like Mid-Atlantic Construction and PA Business Central. 

This firm is currently headed by firm president Stephanie Schmidt. A Penn State graduate with a degree in architectural engineering, Schmidt is not only the regional vice president of the National Association of Contractors and Builders (NACB), but she also represents seven states on the National Executive Committee. Schmidt also served as the past chairperson and member of the ABC Central Pennsylvania’s Board of Directors.


Rogers and Willard Inc.

Though Rogers and Willard is known as a small, streamlined group established by Mike Rogers, 70% of this 31-year-old firm’s work comes from repeat clients. Known for its high-quality work, Rogers and Willard always completes projects in a cost-efficient manner. A good example of the firm’s work is a one-story red brick BankTrust structure in Mobile. Aside from BankTrust, the firm has also completed projects for PNC, Region’s Bank, Coastal Bank and Trust, Merchants Bank, RBC Centura, and AmSouth Bank. 

Projects like these gained the firm numerous awards, including the ABC’s Excellence in Construction Awards and the National Safety Excellence Awards. Aside from this recognition, Rogers and Willard was also included in the list of Top 10 Small Businesses in Mobile and was featured in Alabama Heritage Magazine and Business Alabama Magazine.


Shingobee

Founded by Gae Veit in 1980, Shingobee is a nationally-acclaimed commercial construction and development company that typically does $80 million worth of projects in a given year. Some of these projects were completed for financial institutions such as the Granite Community Bank, First Federal Bank, State Bank of Delano, United Prairie Bank, Heartland Credit Union, and the Security State Bank of Howard Lake.

One of the firm’s most notable projects is the BankVista Financial Center. A two-story building with a distinctly modern design, it was awarded the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC)’s National Excellence in Construction Awards. With the capability to build all kinds of structures, Shingobee has been featured in Finance and Commerce and has recently won even more awards such as the Excellence in Construction Eagle Awards, and the Greener Tomorrow award. 


Burke Construction Group

A firm experienced in building projects for over 20 market sectors, Burke Construction Group has built over 700 projects nationwide in 35 years of building commercial projects. Currently, it has Kevin Burke as its president and CEO. An expert in construction management, Burke has the ability to create innovative and customized building solutions for diverse clients.

Aside from carrying two centuries of construction experience, the firm has also been featured in Nevada Business Magazine and the Las Vegas Sun. It has also won the Southern Nevada’s Associated General Contractor (AGC)’s 2018 Safety Contractor of the Year award, as well as the AGC’s Building Project of the Year and ENR Southwest’s Project of the Year Award for its work on Credit One Bank.

A relatively new firm that was established in 2001, Link Construction is known for having a modern understanding of sustainable designs, materials, systems, and construction methods. Thanks to this knowledge, the firm was able to win ABC’s 2017 Excellence in Construction Eagle award and the 2018 Excellence in Construction awards. Alongside such awards, it was also included in four of South Florida Business Journal’s rankings. In 2014, it was included in the Florida Fast 100 and on the list of Fastest Growing Companies. In the following year, it was included on the list of Top 25 General Contractors and the list of Top 100 Private Companies. Over the years, Link construction was able to build projects for numerous financial institutions like TD Bank and Suntrust Bank.

One of these banks was arguably its most distinguished project, a TD Bank branch in North Miami. At 2,960 square feet, this building is a great example of the firm’s expertise in sustainable projects. It has a LEED Gold certification and was built with sustainable features like a photovoltaic solar panel system above its drive-thru structure, low E glass storefront system, flooring materials and paints with low VOC content, and forestry certified wood material. Link Construction was founded by company president Guillermo Fernandez who possesses over 23 years of construction experience and memberships in several industry associations such as the ABC South Florida chapter, the Construction Association of South Florida, and the National Association for Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP).


Delphi Construction

255 Bear Hill Rd. Suite #301, Waltham, MA 02451

Throughout Massachusetts and New England, Delphi Construction is known as a full-service contractor doing jobs for multiple markets. It was named by The Boston Business Journal as one of the top 25 largest general contractors in Massachusetts. Though it has many jobs in different markets, it focuses on banking construction and has done projects for Seaman’s Bank Loan Center, the Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod, Needham Bank, and Middlesex Savings Bank. One example of the firm’s notable projects is the Needham Bank Office Building. Designed by architect firm Knight, Bagge, and Anderson, this 15,871 square foot building is two-stories tall and has a steel frame structure with light gauge metal framing, a full hip roof, a well-detailed wood exterior, and a fully developed site with parking and carefully chosen landscapes. 

Projects such as these are possible because of the firm’s highly-qualified team and CEO Jake Simmons’ 25 years of construction experience—gained from working in his family’s residential construction business before attaining a bachelor of arts degree in architecture.


Teal Construction

Outstanding customer service, innovative designs, and quality construction: these are the three principles holding up Teal Construction along with its seven decades of construction experience. With its capabilities the firm has been featured in U.S. Builders Review and has won awards from the ABC: the Platinum STEP award in 2016 and the Platinum and Diamond Award in 2017.

The firm has built projects for a number of markets, including financial institutions like Frost Financial Center and Chase Bank. Designed by Halbach Dietz Architects, this 650 square foot Houston branch Frost Bank is known to be the most unique structure among Frost Bank’s stand-alone branches. Despite the firm using the same materials seen on other Frost banks, this Houston branch was specifically designed to make the building stand out against the intimidating skyscrapers that surround it. 


King Construction

Providing quality construction services for the retail, restaurant, banking, corporate, and private developer markets, King Construction was established in 1997 and has been serving the Atlantic region ever since. It was founded by Douglas L. Colonell. Colonell studied engineering and business administration during high school and college, and he followed in his father’s footsteps in framing homes. Colonell combined his experience and education with an aggressive business style that has led to success in a number of sectors. 

Though the firm itself is relatively young, it has memberships within the ABC of Baltimore, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in Baltimore, and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Some of the companies the firm has built for are M and T Bank, Suntrust, Provident Bank, Bank of America, and Mariner Bank.


Bryan Construction

7025 Campus Dr., Colorado Springs, CO 80920

Bryan Construction is particularly skilled in building projects for military and defense contractors. But perhaps it is best known for the very first LEED Gold certified office in Southern Colorado. Aside from building multiple SCIF rooms and high-security areas up to Department of Defense standards, Bryan Construction has built and renovated millions of square feet of both large and small office spaces. One great example of these structures is ANB Bank in Colorado Springs. A 20,000 square foot, three-story structure, this branch serves as ANB Bank’s flagship location in Colorado Springs and was completed five weeks early.

Within the firm’s 23 years of activity, the project was featured in the Denver Post Gazette, Coloradoan, ENR, and Colorado Springs Gazette. Alongside this recognition, it also won the Colorado Springs Business Journal’s 2018 Best in Business Award.


Fite Building

A firm excelling in both design-build and traditional construction, Fite Building was established in 1974 and is currently managed by company president William J. Fite. Through the four decades of its existence, the firm has undertaken several projects for different markets including the financial sector. Some of the companies it has built for are the Bank of Lincoln County, Progress Bank, North Alabama Bank, and the National Bank of Commerce.

Fite Building has gained recognition through the 2012 ABC Excellence in Construction award, as well as the American Subcontractors Association of Alabama’s General Contractor of the Year award. For 14 consecutive years, the firm also won the ABC STEP Safety Award for Outstanding Safety Program.


Greystone Construction

Greystone Construction is best known as a company that involves itself in a number of markets for the commercial, industrial, and agricultural sectors. Since company CEO Kevin O’Brien founded it in 1987, Greystone Construction has been known to provide its clients with in-house drafting services, practical construction experience, value engineering, and the latest construction techniques.

It has done work that earned it several Safety awards, including ABC’s Platinum National Safety Award, the Minnesota ABC’s Achievement Award for Safety Performance, and the Outstanding Safety Performance Award. Along with these safety awards, the firm also won the National Associated Builders and Contractors’ Excellence in Construction Merit Award and the Minnesota Associated Builders and Contractors’ Excellence in Construction’s Award of Excellence for its work on The Voyager Bank office building in Shakopee. Russell

A firm that provides commercial construction and development services across the Midwest, Russell is a growth-oriented firm that currently has over 150 craftsmen on its team. These team members are managed by founder and CEO James V. Russell who has been recognized by the Association of Fundraising professionals and was included in the Junior Achievement Quad Cities Business Hall of Fame. Under Russell’s management, the firm was able to win the Master Builders of Iowa’s Outstanding Company Safety Achievement Award while the firm’s director of safety—Mike Doucette—was named Safety Professional of the year in 2019. Aside from winning safety awards, Russell grew over 180 million in annual sales and expanded its services to include construction and real estate development. 

Since its expansion, the firm has been able to complete projects for a number of markets. In the financial sector, it was able to build structures for First American State Bank, Community 1st Credit Union, American Bank and Trust, and Ascentra Credit Union. One of its most notable projects is a 3,200 square foot Davenport branch for First American State Bank.


Kinco Constructors

After 46 years of the firm’s activity, Kinco has become one of the region’s leading construction firms. Currently, it has Doug Wasson standing as the president of a team of skilled craftsmen. The firm maintains memberships within several organizations, including the AGC of America, ABC, and the USGBC. It was also able to win the AGC’s 2018 Safety Excellence Award and became a three-time winner of the ABC’s Excellence in Construction Awards. Aside from such awards, the firm has the experience of creating projects for First Security Bank, Cornerstone Bank, and Union Bank. One of these projects is a branch for Cornerstone Bank. 

Designed by architecture firm Johnson Troillett, this structure has a customer-friendly interior. Exposed beams, stone columns, interior brick accents, stained wood trims and doors, tile floors, and soaring ceilings complete the building’s lodge-style interior and provide a spacious atmosphere for both personal and business banking.


MT Builders 

8434 North 90th St., Suite #150, Scottsdale, AZ 85258

A 24-year-old firm, MT Builders has completed over $800 million worth of construction work that helped it become recognized as one of Arizona’s top contracting companies. Some of these projects were completed for financial institutions like Johnson Bank. A 6,000 square foot building designed with architecture firm Phoenix Design Group, it exhibits a pueblo-style facade that blends with its Scottsdale neighborhood. The firm has also been featured magazines like Phoenix Business Journal where it was ranked among the Top 50 Commercial Contractors from 2000 to 2015 and ENR Magazine Southwest where it was included in the list of Largest General Contractors in the Southwest. Aside from its rankings, MT Builder is also an eight-time winner of the Arizona Corporate Excellence Awards which the firm won in 2014 for being the 2nd fastest growing privately owned company.

Alongside the generations of experience it has, Beckenhauer Construction is led by company CEO Lowell (Buster) Beckenhauer Jr.’s expertise. A contractor with 50 years of experience, Beckenhauer graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management and has built millions of square feet of projects during his construction years. The firm has done projects for financial institutions like BankFirst, Citizens State Bank, Elkhorn Valley Trust and Bank, and Midwest Bank.
